Application Guide for 2022  China Studies Program

At Renmin University of China

 China Studies Program (CSP) is sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC). It aims to give the young scholars an opportunity to study and research in China, foster deep understanding of China and the Chinese culture, and resultantly to help enhance the friendship between people of China and those of other countries. The CSP has two sub-programs, the Sino-Foreign Joint Ph.D. program (Senior visiting program), and the Ph.D. in China program (Ph.D. program).

I.  Sino-Foreign Joint Ph.D. program

1. Basic Introduction

This program sponsors the currently enrolled Ph.D. students from foreign universities to study in China, participate in a joint research program, and write their dissertations. Students will be sponsored for one academic semester to two academic years.

2. Qualifications

a) Non-Chinese citizens;

b) Formally registered Ph.D. students from foreign universities;

c) The student’s Chinese language proficiency should reach HSK level 5. Students with higher language proficiency are preferred.

3. Application Documents

a) Copy of a valid regular passport

b) Certificate of Enrollment (original)

c) The official transcripts (original)

d) Two recommendations letters from professors of your field

e) HSK Report

f) The abstract of the master’s thesis or other research papers

g) The abstract of the dissertation\

h) Study plan

i) Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Original)

4. How to Apply?

Please visit http://csp.chinese.cn/myDoip to finish the online application and submit the application documents to the International Students Office (ISO) of Renmin University of China (RUC). The mailing address is:

5. Review Procedures

a) Students file the application to the CLEC and the CLEC will forward the application to RUC;

b) The ISO review the application documents;

c) The qualified documents will be forwarded to the School. The School will set the interview for the applicants;

d) The qualified documents of applicants will be forwarded to the Graduate School for admission review;

e) The ISO will submit the admission list to the CLEC;

f) The CLEC will organize the review and interview, award the scholarship and notify RUC;

g) The ISO will send out the admission package to the applicant.

6. Scholarship Coverage

a) Tuition

b) Living stipend and research fund

c) Annual international round-trip ticket (economy class, reimbursement based on actual cost)

d) Health insurance

7. Timetable

a) December 2021 - February 2022: students file the online application (the deadline is February 28th, 2022)

b) March 2022 - April 2022: university review

c) May 2022: the CLEC sets the review & interview

d) June 2022: the CLEC awards the scholarship

e) September 2022 / March 2023: students register at RUC

II.  Ph.D. in China Program

1. Introduction

This program sponsors student to pursue a Ph.D. degree in China. Students should have obtained a master’s degree from a foreign university. Student will be sponsored for four academic years.

2. Qualifications

a) Non-Chinese citizens;

b) The student’s Chinese language proficiency should reach HSK level 6 and HSKK Advanced level. Students with higher language proficiency are preferred;

c) Students should have obtained a master’s degree already or be expected to get the master’s degree before their formal registration at RUC.

3. Application Documents

a) Copy of a valid regular passport

b) Transcripts of the bachelor degree and master’s degree (original of notarized copy)

c) Certificate of the highest degree (original of notarized copy)

ØThe non-graduate master’s student should provide the original or the original of notarized copy of the Certificate of Expected Graduation.

d) Two recommendations letters from professors

e) HSK Certificate and HSKK certificate

f) The abstract of the master’s thesis or other research papers

g) The study plan

h) Foreigner Physical Examination Form (original)
