Program Description

The School of Philosophy, Renmin University of China, is one of the largest institutes for philosophical study in China and the world, with an international reputation for academic excellence. The School has 80 full-time faculty members, about 400 graduate students, and 300 undergraduate students. It offers courses on all aspects of philosophy.

The School of Philosophy proudly offers a two-year MA program in Chinese Philosophy, Religion, and Culture (CPRC). All courses for this program (except Chinese language) are taught in English. It offers oversea students, who are not proficient in Chinese language, a valuable opportunity to study closely Chinese philosophy, religion, and culture while living in China. This program has attracted students from all over the world, and it endeavors to create a unique environment in which diverse backgrounds and experiences will enhance rigorous academic study.

This program covers a wide range of topics on Chinese philosophy (especially Confucianism and Daoism), Chinese religion (especially Buddhism, sociology of religion, and folk religions), and Chinese culture (both ancient and contemporary). After fulfilling all the course work, the student will conduct independent study on a selected topic and write a master thesis with his or her academic supervisor. Upon completion of the program, the graduates will earn a Master Degree of philosophy, recognized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and will be well prepared to pursue a PhD in Chinese philosophy or work in related fields.

This program also provides students with opportunities to visit some of China's important religious and cultural places, such as the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Lama Tempe in Beijing, Qufu, Xi'an etc.

Admission

(1)Eligibility

The applicant should have obtained a Bachelor's Degree by August 31, 2022, and prove English proficiency (TOEFL score of 98 or above, IELTS 6.0 or above, or certificate of graduating from a program taught in English).

(2)Deadline

The application period is open from November 15 2021 to April 30, 2022.

To begin your application to Renmin University of China, please access the online application found on the website of the international students office of Renmin University of China and register through the online registration system( http://international.ruc.edu.cn/application

Scan all the application documents, and send them to Prof. Li Jifen (lijifen87@163.com).

Mail all the application documents to the School of Philosophy by April 30, 2022.

Academic committee review all the applications.

On-line or in-person interview.

The result of admission will be announced by May 31, 2022.

The result of scholarship will be announced by June 30, 2022.

1 Application Form for Master Programs in English at RUC

2 Copy of bachelor's degree or higher degree certificates, or expected graduation certificate (documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by official Chinese or English translations)

3 Original Academic Transcripts (Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by Chinese or English translations)

4 Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by associate professors or professors

5 Two recent 2-inch photos (in white background)

6 One photocopy of the main page of normal passport, and the passport should not expire before September 10, 2023

7 Foreigner Physical Examination form (download at http://iso.ruc.edu.cn/ENGLISH/Download/index.htm)

8 English proficiency (TOEFL at least 98 or IELTS at least 6.0) or certificate of graduating from a degree program taught in English

9 A Personal Statement indicating education and working experience, research achievements, plans and personal development objectives after graduation

10 The finance supporting documents of guarantee (Employment &Income certificate or bank statement, etc.)

Scholarships

Renmin University of China, and the School of Philosophy provide various scholarships to a number of students of the CPRC program, such as Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), University Scholarship, etc. Different scholarships have different coverage in regard of tuition, partial tuition, on-campus accommodation, living allowance, etc. Applicants who would like to be considered for scholarship should consult Prof. Li, Jifen, and fill in a separate Scholarship Application Form.
