I. Supporting Categories, Duration and Instruction Language

1. Supporting category: graduate students only, including master degree students and Ph.D. students;

2. Duration

a) Master degree student: 2 to 3 years (depending on the basic study duration of the major or program);

b) Ph.D. student: 4 years;

c) CGS Type B cannot be extended;

d) CGS Type B does not include Chinese language study year in RUC.

3. Instruction Language: Chinese or English;

4. Majors and Programs: See in the Major List for Chinese-taught Master Degree / Ph.D. Program and the Application Guidance for English-taught Master Degree Program of the year.

III. Basic Eligibility

1. The applicant must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health;

2. The requirements for applicants’ degree and age

a) Master degree program applicants: be a bachelor’s degree holder and no older than 35 when applying for the master’s programs;

b) Ph.D. program applicants: be a master’s degree holder and no older than 40 when applying for the Ph.D. programs;

IV. When to apply: January - April.

V. Application Procedure

1. Follow the requirements on the Application Guidance of the year, and finish the online application. Upload all the application documents and pay the application fees (RMB 800 yuan);

2. Complete the online application procedure at CGS Information Management System for International Students, submit Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, and print a hard copy;

b) Only applications of recommended candidates from designated Chinese universities will be considered by CSC.

3. Mail the paper documents required along with the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship to International Students Office in accordance with the Application Guidance of the year.

VII. Admission and Scholarship Confirmation

1. RUC reviews your application documents, and decides whether you are admitted according to the procedures of examination and admission of a self-supported applicant;

2. RUC will organize a comprehensive review on all the admitted self-supported applicants and form a nomination list which will be submitted to CSC;

3. Applicants nominated by RUC will get a Chinese Government Scholarship to study in China with the approval of the CSC;

4. CSC reserves the rights to decide the host university for scholarship recipients with multiple offers. Each scholarship recipient – even when admitted by multiple universities – will be granted no more than one scholarship;

5. The CSC reviews eligibility and qualifications of nominated candidates, approves the List of Scholarship Recipients, and sends the admission documents to universities before June 30th. University sends the admission documents (List of Scholarship Recipients, Admission Letter and Visa Application Form for Study in China, i.e. JW201 Form) to scholarship recipients.

6. Scholarship recipients shall not change their host university, field of study, or duration of study stipulated on the Admission Letter after they come to China;

7. Scholarship will not be reserved if scholarship recipient cannot register before the registration deadline.
